Under stormy skies in Nebraska

Nancy Fowler-Stricker
Location: S of Alliance, NE (Box Butte County)
Date: 27 June 2014

When in the distance, a cumulonimbus cloud is easily distinguishable by its deep vertical growth and anvil stretching out across the sky. But when underneath these storms, dark ominous skies prevail. This storm was photographed by Nancy around 5 P.M. in Box Butte County when this county was under a flash flood watch. This is issued when these storms produce a lot of rain, move slowly, and possibly when there are several storms moving over the same location. In addition to heavy rain, lightning is also a hazard with these thunderstorms.
