The calm before the storm in FL

Kimber Edmondson
Location: Central Florida, U.S.A.
Date: 27 June 2014

Before the nearly daily afternoon thunderstorms fired up over central Florida on 27 June 2014, this patch of altocumulus clouds were observed in the early morning hours. Indicating unstable conditions and moisture at these mid-levels, they also allowed enough sun to shine through to aid the heating-induced circulations over this state that creates frequent afternoon storms. Altocumulus clouds can typically be found between 6,500 and 20,000 feet (2,000 to 6,000 meters) above the ground.
